17″ x 17 1/2″ I took a class with Susan Brubaker Knapp in which we learned to make this dragonfly. I love the movement that the quilting provides.
Nature
Creation abounds with beauty to inspire us at every turn. Inspiration for these pieces have come from a variety of sources, a drawing I did, photos from a walk, memories of a trip.
Tiger Swallowtail
20″ x 20″ The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail is the state insect of Virginia. It is one of our largest butterflies. They live mostly in deciduous woodlands. Female swallowtails lay their eggs on the leaves of woody plants like wild black cherry and tulip trees. They feed on nectar from wildflowers and flowers in neighborhood gardens […]
Born to Be Wild
41″ x 39″ What an exciting sight it is to see a bald eagle in flight. With a wingspan of up to 7.5 feet, they soar majestically through the sky, drawing the attention of anyone lucky enough to be in the area. Once endangered, the rare bird’s population has increased from 400 pairs in the […]
Octopuses Garden
20″ x 20″ Of all the creatures living in the Abyss, the octopus is the most familiar to me. I’m reminded of the Beatles’ tune, Octopus’ Garden. They made the area where the octopi live sound safe and sanctuary-like. If I happened to find myself in the Abyss, I’d like to think I might find […]
Conclave
12″ x 12″ Pope Leo XIV was elected Pope on May 8, 2025. As I was quilting this tree, a cardinal took up residence. The tree attracted more and more cardinals, and before I knew it, a conclave appeared.

Path of Reflection
18″ x 26″ Walking the dog in the evening. Light filters through a cherry tree, shining bright patches on the petals strewn along the path. Pausing, I reflect on the blessings of the day, including the beautiful sight before me.
Black and White and Red All Over
Zebras’ stripe patterns are as unique as fingerprints. That uniqueness inspired this quilt. My artwork starts with visual patterns and textures. Undoubtedly that’s what made him so appealing to create and gave him a personality all his own. The sparkle in his eye existed before I added the first shiny stitch. I am particularly pleased […]
Rain
The rain that falls today is the same water that has fallen since the dawn of time. It is recycled through the water cycle, never losing or adding a drop. It refreshes the Earth, cleans the air and waters the plants. In this piece, I have created the kind of rain that fascinates us by […]
Tiptoe Through the Tulip
Hot Springs National Park has an annual Tulip Extravaganza, which inspired this piece. I can vividly imagine it having spent Easter at Keukenhof in The Netherlands years ago during tulip season. Tulips in full bloom create a riot of color and velvety texture. Tulips shimmer and shine. They almost invite you to come closer, […]
Pronghorn Pete
Pronghorn became important to my husband and me when we went on a cross country trip to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. We were stopped by traffic jam…of pronghorn in a national park. I didn’t realize what a rare experience we were having, but my husband did. The pronghorn we saw were so lively and […]
