My mother, Sue Miller, came from Alabama and was a wonderful cook. My father’s father was from England, and my grandmother, Anna Bruce Miller, endeavored to make some of his favorite British dishes. On my birthday, my mother would make roast beef with creole peas, a southern dish, and Yorkshire pudding, a British dish. The strawberry cake that she made for my birthday was a family favorite. A most gracious hostess, she always set a beautiful formal table with her Limoges china and her Gorham Chantilly silver. I have recreated the meal and the table setting on my quilt.
